A friend of mine wants a special gift for that special someone and so commissions me to create a sweet, sweet deck...

Luckily, i have an old-school pool deck handy. Luckily, because i've been given about a week to produce this thing, and i need all the time i can get.
I've been specifically asked to use colour (as opposed to the monotone pyrography i would usually perform on a deck of this type) so as to accentuate the subject's glorious flaming locks... So... Colour...
Love the stuff!
Love colour, love matching, love markers...
But paint i've never been a huge fan of. Just haven't had the practice, you know?
Never had the patience...
I usually work very exactly, i prefer a hard line and a dry medium...
Though all this while i've been waiting for an opportunity like this.
To push myself and explore beyond what i'm comfortable with.
Anyway, i get to this point, and as i prepare to stain the wood, the thought never crosses my mind that wood stain could react not-so-well with graphite. Alas, the graphite illustration is wiped entirely from the deck as i brush the wood stain on.
Damn it.
So here's another design i was weighing up anyway. I think it gives me more room to play with the hair portion of the image.
I gave painting a go, with acrylics this time, and she came out cute enough, but certainly not to the standard i was expecting... (or hoping for).
Must've been otherworldly forces at hand, for after leaving the deck at my window sill for a moment of coffee goodness, the morning sun had all but melted my image away. Crackled and depressing, i decided to fill in the blanks where the paint had been with coloured pencils. Yuck.
So i scrapped it in the end. Back to square one and this is due in a couple of days.
Freshly sanded, again, and ready to go. I think i needed to get that off my chest.
A frustrating post, maybe, but i can assure you that the next instalment is tantalising, beautiful and progressive!
Hold my hand , no, don't hold it.
